Spring 2026 Auditions
The Nielsen Chorale is Holding Open Auditions for the Newly-Formed Chamber Choir (approx. 40 voices), and We Hope You’ll Want to Consider Being a Part of Our Growing Organization!
Founded in 2019, the Nielsen Chorale is committed to excellence in the choral art with membership drawn from Rockford, Illinois and surrounding communities. The resident chorus of the Rockford Symphony Orchestra, its repertoire centers on masterworks for chorus and orchestra as well as other distinctly creative collaborations with area soloists and instrumentalists.
We’re seeking singers for the Chamber Choir who are open to embracing new challenges, demonstrating flexibility and willingness to grow artistically. We’re certain to make good music and great friends!
A highlight of the upcoming season will be the April 19, 2026 performance of John Rutter’s “Mass of the Children,” featuring the Nielsen Chamber Choir, soloists, and professional instrumentalists joined by youth singers of Kantorei, Auburn High School, and Guilford High School. The concert will celebrate the rich choral musical heritage in our community.
We very much look forward to meeting you and hearing your capabilities to determine how you might best be placed in the group. We’ll vocalize a bit to determine your range. Please prepare the Lacrymosa movement from the Mozart Requiem, selecting the voice part in which you’re most comfortable. A scanned copy is provided below for your convenience. The voice hearing will also include some ear training and sight reading exercises.

Full rehearsals begin Monday, March 2nd–April 13th, Christ Lutheran Church
